Which rule do cities use?

Across every holiday rule on file for 2026.

RuleRule rows on fileWhat it means for your bins
Run one day later 1107 Holiday week: every route from the holiday onward slides one weekday later.
Skipped that week 64 That week's collection is skipped entirely until the next cycle.
Run one day earlier 15 Routes run a day early ahead of the holiday.

“Runs one day later” is the national default — the skip-week rule is the rare exception, and a handful of cities run routes early instead.

How this report is built

No surveys, no estimates — only rules cities and haulers publish.

Each city page on TrashDay is built from the municipality's or hauler's own published schedule, with the verification date on the page. This report aggregates those holiday rules for 2026: a city counts as “shifting” only if a published rule moves a route (one day later, earlier, or skipped). Where a rule names a standard holiday without a posted date — “Thanksgiving: runs one day later” — the date comes from the standard US observance calendar, and city pages mark those dates as derived. Cities that publish no holiday rules are excluded from the percentages and counted separately.
