What about bulky or special items?
Mattresses, appliances, storm debris — the rules before you set them out.
- Setout window — Cart at curb/alley by 6 AM collection day, no earlier than 4 PM the day before; removed by 4 PM the day after; 3 ft from other carts/objects, arrow toward street, do not block sidewalks; max load 200 lb.
- Set-Out Variance — Residents unable to meet setout rules may apply for a Waste Set-Out Variance (doctor's note or photos of property conditions required; solutions include alternate location, different container size, or property-side collection; renewed annually).
- Prohibited — Not permitted in cart: human waste, household hazardous waste (Haz Bin), liquid paint, construction/remodeling/demolition materials (Waste Reduction Center). Syringes/broken glass in rigid containers; animal waste bagged.
- Eligibility boundary — City collection applies only within the Urban Services District (USD boundary published as LOJIC dataset 'louisville-ky-urban-service-district-2'); small Jefferson County cities and unincorporated areas arrange their own.
